Our Name

Tenzing Insurance Strategies takes its inspiration from Tenzing Norgay, the renowned Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer and guide.

On May 29th 1953, Tenzing Norgay guided Sir Edmund Hillary to the summit of Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak. Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first people to set foot on the summit, where they spent approximately 15 minutes after accomplishing this goal as a team.

Tenzing was highly regarded as an elite mountaineer and an expert in the extreme altitude and terrain. Hillary chose Tenzing as his guide for the famous summit attempt after Tenzing saved his life by quickly and expertly securing Hillary’s rope after he had fallen into a crevasse. Although Hillary received much of the global recognition for the record-breaking achievement, the expedition was a true collaboration that may not have succeeded without Tenzing’s knowledge, skills, foresight and endurance.
